Know Your Strongest Point (#34)

#034 – Know Your Strongest Point

Know your strongest point. Your pre-eminent gift; cultivate that and you will assist the rest. Every one would have excelled in something if he had known his strong point. Notice in what quality you surpass, and take charge of that. In some judgment excels, in others valour. Most do violence to their natural aptitude, and thus attain superiority in nothing. Time disillusionises us too late of what first flattered the passions.

Too often as coaches, we focus on where we are weak.  The areas that need the most perceived work.  We tend to do that work at the expense of what we are good at, or even what we are passionate about.  We lose sight of what started our journey.  Continue to work and grow in the areas that you are already good at.  Increase the skill gap.  You do not need to be great at everything and you certainly do not need to be good at things others are good at.  You are your own coach and person.  Put your mark on what and how you train.  Take a moment right now to reflect and think about what are your strong points and how you can make them even stronger.

This blog series is based on the book “The Art of Worldly Wisdom” by Balthasar Gracián.  This book was written for advice on how to achieve personal and professional success.  This blog series aims to visit the points of wisdom and put them in the spotlight of the coaching and education lens.
